We recommend fertilizing your plant every 3 months using a granular time release fertilizer formulated specially for epiphytes.
Staghorn Ferns enjoy rainforest conditions that mimic growing in the shade of taller trees. Keep in shaded, indirect light. Direct sun exposure may lead to leaf burn.
|Temperature Requirements: |
Staghorn Ferns enjoy a humid, warmer climate. They enjoy indoor temperatures as well.
Staghorn Ferns are epiphytes, which means they absorb water mostly through their leaves and not their roots. Mist thoroughly on a daily basis.
Staghorn Ferns can be potted when young, but are better when planted vertically. When shield fronds at the base of the plant outgrows the planter, fern should be taken out of the soil and mounted either on a wood plaque or placed in a hanging moss basket. Smaller offshoots can be separated from base of plant and repotted into soil or mounted.
