Care Information

Pruning Tips:
The Ficus bonsai can be easily trained and pruned using the clip and grow method. Prune back to 2-4 leaves after 6-10 leaves have grown. The Ficus Bonsai tree constantly rotates leaves and sprouts new buds as old ones fall. This occurs most frequently when acclimating to new temperatures. Yellowing of mature or internal foliage is a normal occurrence for this species in the spring and early fall.

Fertilizing:
We recommend fertilizing your bonsai tree every month with a bonsai fertilizer. Time release granules are the easiest to use and can be added every season. Reduce the amount of fertilizer during the winter. Take care not to over-fertilize as this can cause your leaves to burn or grow too leggy.

Lighting:
Ficus bonsai trees will grow decently in low light but thrive in high light conditions. We recommend filtered natural sunlight. If placed in full sun, take care to manage your watering to prevent your tree from drying out.

Temperature Requirements:
The Ficus prefer warmer temperate climates with more humidity. Colder temperatures under 45 degrees Fahrenheit may result in frostbitten leaves.

Watering Requirements:
Water moderately, increasing in summer and decreasing in winter. We recommend using a soft spray to soak the soil. Ensure that water penetrates not only the topsoil but also into the roots by checking that draining is occurring on the bottom of the pot. Many Ficus bonsai trees are very tolerant of being over or under-watered, which makes them ideal for beginners. The Ficus bonsai tree also enjoys daily misting to maintain humidity.

Repotting:
Repot every 2-3 years, although some will grow rapidly enough that yearly repotting may be necessary. The best time is before a new growth spurt, especially in spring, but Ficus bonsai trees can be repotted any time of year if reasonable after-care is given. Roots can easily be pruned by half. Basic bonsai soil is recommended, although Ficus bonsai trees tolerate many soil conditions.

Indoor / Outdoor:
The Ficus bonsai trees can thrive in both indoor and outdoor conditions. We recommend bringing the tree inside during winter to protect it from freezing.

30 Day Plant Policy

30 Day Plant Replacement:
We understand that not everyone has a green thumb, so if your prized tree doesn't agree with you within 30 days, we'll send one replacement tree to you for free. We'll even cover the shipping cost for getting that new plant to you, which means all you need to do is give us a call. :)

Unlike most other websites that only offer a 3-day or 7-day policy, we're giving you a whole month to ease your mind that you've got a second chance to make the tree thrive. Look for the seal on the product page that indicates the product qualifies for our 30 day replacement policy.

How it Works:
When you receive your plant, care for it as you would based on the enclosed care instructions. If things aren't looking that great, give us a ring and we'll try to troubleshoot the issue. If after our recommendations, it still doesn't look like the plant will make it, we'll go ahead and send you a new tree. Our hope is that the experience you've gained from the first tree will ensure that the second tree will live on happily. Of course, we'll always provide help and support for that one too.

Exclusions: (Select Plants only - Look for the Seal)
Unfortunately :( , there are some exclusions on this policy. Otherwise, we wouldn't be able to continue to offer beautiful trees to everyone. Our 30 day policy applies to SELECT plants only. For other products and accessories, please refer to our general return policy.

In order to maintain our low prices on certain products, we must exclude Unique Trees, lucky bamboo event favors, and bonsai event favors from the 30 Day replacement policy. Corporate gifts are also excluded due to the additional discounts given on those orders.

Refunds & Store Credit: (requires notification within 7 Days)
Our 30 Day policy applies to a replacement tree ONLY. If you would like a refund or store credit, we must be notified within 7 DAYS of receiving your product. If a replacement tree is unavailable, a similar plant of equal value will be otherwise substituted. If no suitable substitution is available, store credit will be issued in the amount of the purchase price.
