How do I get my fountain to work?

Electrical water pump is included with easy operating instructions.
Instructions are as follows:
Once removing all parts from the box, join plastic tubing in the bottom of the fountain to pump connector (not electrical plug). Once connected, make cord slightly taut and put through gap in the base of the fountain. Lead excess cord away from fountain and plug into electrical outlet. To activate the fountain, simply fill the base with filtered water and connect top of fountain to base.
